Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist Share Their Vision for Their January Wedding: ‘It’s Going to be Spectacular’ (Exclusive)

Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and his fiancee Theresa Nist only have a few weeks to plan their big day, but luckily, they have plenty of help.

“We have daughters who are so involved,” Theresa, 70, tells PEOPLE in a joint interview with Gerry, 72. “My daughter, she’s seen a million weddings and she’s amazing. She put together a vision board. She asks me: ‘Do you like this? Do you like this?’ And I say, ‘Wow, well, I don’t even have to do that. This is excellent.’ She carries it pretty well.”

Gerry happily handed over the reins to Theresa and her daughter Jen.

“I just hear the joy in her voice when I talk to her, and she’s talking about whether it’s the dress or the cake or the flowers or whatever,” he says. “It makes me so happy that she’s having such a good time with it. It’s like, what could be more fun?”

Until now, they were in agreement on most decisions about the wedding. “When she’s thinking out loud and I’m thinking out loud, they’re pretty much in sync,” says Gerry. “I haven’t seen anything that doesn’t work. It will be spectacular.”

Gerry has one take on the special day: “He told me he wanted a blue suit,” says Theresa.

Thersea has an idea of ​​how she wants her dress and veil to look, as well as thoughts on the “look of the cake”. She picked out the colors for the flowers and wants a lot of them “because my daughter and I are both gardeners,” Theresa says. “I have an abundance of roses and gardens.”

The couple envisages long tables with a draped ceiling for the reception. “And originally our idea was to have these cypress trees like you see in Italy, but that’s not going to happen in this location,” Theresa says. “But it’s just as spectacular, what’s about to happen.”

They haven’t decided on the first dance song yet, but “we’re suggesting a certain band,” says Theresa. “I won’t say who it is [because I’m] we are not sure if we will get it. But I would really like choreographed dance.”

Gerry asked his sons-in-law to be his best men and Theresa’s daughter to be his girlfriend.

“She’s so excited!” says a financial services expert. “All six of my grandchildren will be involved and we want to have Henry as the ring bearer. And we will have my sisters – they don’t know it – as flower girls. They are older. They should be delighted with it.”

As for honeymoon plans, Gerry and Theresa plan to go to Italy thanks to a trip awarded to them by ABC during Thursday’s After the Final Rose special. “It’s the top of her list and it’s become the top of mine,” says the retired restaurateur.

Gerry expects Theresa to take the lead when it comes to vacation planning as well.

“Theresa is a really good planner,” he says. “So vacation wise this is one thing I’m looking forward to, we’ll agree on a budget, she can plan and I just show up on the first day.”

Theresa can’t wait to see where her life with Gerry will take her.

“I would say finding a home together and creating that home that everyone would want to come to — our whole family, our friends — and just exploring life together and having adventures and going on vacations together and having a fun, amazing, wonderful life,” she says. “We feel like we’re going to have the best lives ever.”
