Taylor Swift Made Travis Kelce a ‘Different Man’ This Season, Says His Defensive Coach

  • Head Coach Dave Merritt Says Taylor Swift Has Changed Travis Kelce into a ‘Different Man’
  • Merritt said the team has embraced her as a “little sister” this season.
  • Swift’s impact on the Chiefs has been “positive” and “actually contributed” to the team’s success, Merritt says

Taylor Swift’s influence on Travis Kelce, on and off the field, has turned the NFL star into a “different man,” according to Chiefs defensive coach Dave Merritt.

Merritt, 52, appeared in a new episode of the series The Sports Store Podcast with Reese and K-Mac, where he spoke about the positive influence of the “Karma” singer on Kelce (34).

“I felt like she really added to what we were trying to do,” Merritt began.

Explaining that “there were so many people who hated the fact that she was on TV,” Chiefs players and coaches accepted her as “part of our family because you’re with Travis.”

“So, so, you’re our little sister… You’re part of our family,” Merritt continued.

Kansas City’s defensive backs coach said Swift has “actually been a positive influence on the team” during their season. “It wasn’t in a negative way. Everyone was excited and Travis was happy. So when my player, my brother, is happy next to me, it helps me and it encourages me, and so Travis came in as a different man. So, it helped it’s ours.”

Merritt’s praise for Swift comes shortly after Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman revealed what Swift told him just after he scored the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII.

“She was like… ‘Good job, proud of you, good game — man, it was crazy,'” Hardman, 25, said of his conversation with the pop star during a recent episode Pivot Podcast.

Hardman admitted that with all the excitement surrounding the win, he couldn’t remember verbatim all of their conversations. However, he knew Swift had called her hands “magical,” adding that he had previously shown her a card trick.

The wide receiver also called hanging out with Kelce and his famous girlfriend “so cool.”

“When we leave, I’m like, ‘Damn, that’s Taylor Swift,'” he joked.
