Taylor Swift's New Signet Ring Has a 'Secret Engraving' Requested by Gigi Hadid Herself, Designer Reveals (Exclusive)

Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid’s friendship sounds good.

When Cece Fein Hughes received an Instagram DM from supermodel Gigi Hadid — a longtime follower of her Cece Jewelery account — hoping to buy a custom-made signet ring for her best friend Taylor Swift, the British jeweler got to work.

“This wasn’t our usual custom process — I actually already pre-designed this sketch for our social media campaign where followers guess the celebrity pet,” Hughes tells PEOPLE of Swift’s ring featuring her cat Benjamin Button on the front. “Gigi has been following our trip for a while, so when she saw the post, she immediately DMed us to buy Taylor’s ring.”

The 18-karat yellow gold and pearl ring “has it all [Swift’s] favorite things” and reflects “her immense success and constant travel,” according to the jeweler.

“We wanted it to symbolize her favorite things that can always stay close to her, no matter the distance,” Hughes says of the inspiration behind the ring. “It features her famous cat Benjamin Button who graced the cover of TIME magazine, there were nods to Travis Kelce with his jersey number and her lucky number 13.”

Swift, 34, also has other jewelry dedicated to Kelce, 34, making this ring the latest in her collection. The numbers are surrounded by flaming hearts, swords and crescent shapes on either side.

The ring also has “TTPD” engraved on the inside, a reference to her last number one album Department for tortured poets. “It was a secret engraving that Gigi herself requested,” says Hughes.

Hughes has only positive things to say about working on the ring with Hadid, 29. “Gigi was so sweet and thoughtful throughout and added her own personal touches to the ring to make it even more special for Taylor,” says jewelry owner Cece NAROD .

Although she has yet to hear from Swift (“We know she’s a very busy woman,” says the jeweler), Hughes has received positive feedback.

“Gigi said she liked it so that means everything in the world to us. We can’t wait to try and see her wearing it, so fingers crossed we’ll see it soon.”

Hadid let it be known by commenting on Hughes’ Instagram post of the ring, “It’s perfect ☺️ thank u x.”

Reflecting on the experience of making the ring, Hughes says, “It was an honor to design a piece for one of the most iconic pets in the world, belonging to the most legendary woman of our time.”

“The fact that it was a thoughtful gift from Gigi Taylor makes it even more special. I was excited to make this piece and it just means that Taylor Swift has some Cece Jewelery in her mega jewelery collection.”
