Teen Injured After Deer Smashes Through Diner Window in Tennessee

Two families eating at a local diner in Tennessee were in for a not-so-sweet treat Monday night.

Six people were dining at a table at The Grind restaurant in Martin, Tennessee, when a deer ran through the parking lot window. The video, which he got Fox Weather, shows the glass breaking, prompting the family inside to jump out of their seats and run as one man chased after the deer.

Tennessean he later reported that as the animal flew across the table, its hoof struck 13-year-old Ruby Hayes in the shoulder. She was taken to a nearby hospital and reportedly received 11 stitches for the wound.

When he entered the restaurant, the deer continued to go around the tables, knocking over chairs in the process, until he finally stopped in another part of the diner. The cameras then show him speeding through the area behind the bar.

Restaurant workers ran for cover, tagging each other to draw attention to the animal.

Said customer Alicia Owens, who was sitting at the table the deer crashed into Tennessean “she couldn’t believe” what was happening, adding that the situation was “so bizarre”.

“He’s sliding on the glass, he can’t get his footing. He’s frantically trying to get up,” Owens said. “I couldn’t figure out that it was actually a deer. We’re downtown, across from the University of Tennessee, Martin. It’s like, what the hell?”
