Tejasvi Surya is a lawyer-turned-politician. He is a practicing Advocate of the High Court of Karnataka. He works as a lawyer at a Bangalore-based law firm called Haranahalli Law Partners. He served as secretary of ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) until 2016. Later, in 2016, he became the general secretary of the Karnataka unit of BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bengaluru South constituency and won by 7,39,229 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he won by a margin of 2,77,083 votes, retaining the Bengaluru South seat.

- In 2014, he tweeted that the agenda of the Modi government was encouraging, besides reservation for women in Parliament. Fear of the day when female reservation becomes a reality. His tweets have led to him being labeled a “misogynist”.
- In 2017, Tejasvi was one of the organizers of the controversial ‘Mangalore Chalo’ rally. The rally was organized to protest against the killing of an RSS member in Dakshina Kannada district and showed scenes of BJP workers from the other side of Karnataka on their way to Mangaluru on bicycles.
- In 2019, he tweeted that the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were a test of common man’s patriotism and that those who voted for Narendra Modi would be “nationalists” and those who did not vote would be “anti-nationalist”.
- He has said that the ideologies of India’s two mainstream left-wing parties, the Communist Party of India (M) and the Communist Party of India, are anti-nationalist.
- In 2019, a woman tweeted against Tejasvi, saying she had suffered because of him. She called Tejasvi a “lecher”, “abuser” and a “woman beater”; questioning the BJP’s choice to give him a ticket.
