Mosques and homes in Muslim-majority areas were the targets of last week’s riots – sparked by online hoaxes about the murders of three girls in Southport last Monday.
In Birmingham tonight, local community members rallied to “protect property” and “defend their communities” amid fears of another night of violence by far-right thugs.
During a live Sky News broadcast, anchor Becky Johnson was interrupted by a masked protester who sped behind her on a motorbike.

Keir Starmer today lashed out at depraved far-right maniacs who attacked innocent Britons because of the color of their skin as nights of carnage unfolded.
And the prime minister invited ministers and police chiefs to the first Cobra meeting since the riots began.
Speaking after the meeting, Sir Keir said fiercely: “This is not a protest – this is violence. We will not tolerate it in this country.”

Sir Keir said: “There are a number of actions that have come out of the meeting.
“The first is that we will have a standing army of specialist public duty officers so that we will have enough officers to deal with this where we need them.
“The second is that we will strengthen the criminal justice system. There have already been hundreds of arrests, some have appeared in court this morning.
“I asked for early consideration of the earliest possible appointment and identification of those involved in the process who will feel the full force of the law.”
His comments came after Plymouth City Council warned locals to stay away from the city center from 4pm today due to planned demonstrations.
Devon and Cornwall Police said it was increasing its presence in the area, adding that it was “fully prepared to respond to incidents of disorder”.
The prime minister and chief constables have warned thugs online and live, warning that the full force of the law will come down on them.
A No10 spokesman warned social media bosses that they have a responsibility to ensure that criminal activity does not appear or run rampant on their platforms.
They said ministers were in close contact with technical chiefs to “ensure they meet their responsibilities” over racist illegal activities.
Downing Street has also confirmed that there are enough spare prison cells to ensure every rebel is locked up.
A No 10 spokesman said: “The police, the Home Office and the National Crime Agency are all working to tackle online crime and ensure people are prosecuted.
“They are working to combat misinformation and bot activity.
“Additional court protocol is in place to ensure additional court capacity is in place as needed, and as the ministry said, the protective security scheme for mosques has been expanded with additional security across the country.”
In Westminster, the prime minister paid tribute to the “hard work of police officers over the past week” and “sent his best wishes to those who have been injured protecting our streets”.
Sir Keir was told that hundreds of arrests had been made and officers would continue to update ministers on the progress of arrests and charges.
There have been no requests from forces across the UK for the military to step in and provide support.
But additional police resources across the country in strategic locations are ready to be deployed where needed.

Hundreds of thugs yesterday petrol bombed a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham, near Sheffield.
Rioters in balaclavas threw bricks and fire extinguishers at police officers who tried in vain to stop them from setting fire to the hotel.
Ten riot police officers were injured – including one who was knocked out after suffering a head injury.
Yobs also petrol bombed a Holiday Inn that was hosting asylum seekers in Tamworth, Staffordshire.
A children’s library in Liverpool and a citizens’ advice center in Sunderland were also set on fire at the weekend.
Mosques across the country were attacked and shops owned by British ethnic minorities were looted.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper criticized the “disgraceful” riots – saying they betrayed British values.
Writing in The Times, Cooper said: “Make no mistake – there will be a reckoning for the individuals involved in this violence.
“Whatever they and some of their political supporters tell us, they are not patriots fighting for their communities.
“They are thugs, criminals and extremists who have betrayed the very values on which our country was built.”
Shadow Home Secretary James Cleverly told Times Radio: “Mosques, hotels for asylum seekers are being targeted.
“We see people with swastika tattoos and doing Nazi salutes – that in itself is obviously driven by a lot of the far right.
THE SUN SAYS
THERE are several lessons to be learned from the harrowing scenes of rioting across the UK following the murders of three innocent girls in Southport.
This reliance on the Wild West of social media to get news – instead of regulated, traditional and trusted media – opens users up to a constant source of fakes from skewed algorithms.
That the lack of prompt transparency on the part of the police and other authorities often creates a vacuum into which lies are peddled by twisted conspiracy theorists.
This in turn is fueled by disinformation deliberately spread by malign foreign states such as Russia to sow discord in the UK.
There is no doubt that the courts should now charge the drunken and drugged far-right thugs responsible for the mindless violence in towns like Rotherham.
Punishment should also be meted out to the hard left and Islamists who also want to drive a wedge into our communities.
But the case remains that unless the Government tackles the twin problems of violent crime and illegal migration, vile organized racists and bigots will always seek to exploit these problems.
This is exactly why Sir Keir Starmer wants to use all the force of justice against the mobsters.
However, in the midst of painful and depressing scenes, we were shown the uplifting true face of Britain.
The mosque in Southport is being repaired by volunteer builders, locals who lead clean-up campaigns in their towns.
Far right facing down as, ultimately, it always has been.
Because it is important to remember that this is still a moderate, tolerant country — always capable of delivering a brick to the balls of fascists who deserve to be ridiculed as well as despised.
We haven’t let them win before and we won’t start now.
“We know that there is a very active online community that incites hatred, incites the attitudes that drive these events.
“So we know where this is coming from. It is absolutely correct to describe the actions of these people as far right.”
Tory leadership contender Cleverly said the government had been “slow” in tackling the riots.
He said: “When the government gets things right, I will support them, because this issue is absolutely crucial.
“But I’m also worried they’ve been slow. Cobra won’t sit down until today.”
The leader of the Reformists in Great Britain, Nigel Farage, called for the recall of parliament this morning.
Posting on X, Farage added: “We should not rule out using the military if the situation worsens further.”
