A suspected terrorist who served in the British Army has escaped from prison after “sneaking out of the kitchen and clinging to a delivery van”.
Police have launched an urgent search for ex-soldier Daniel Abed Khalife, 21, after he escaped from HMP Wandsworth in south London at around 7.50am this morning.

Chaos has reigned at UK airports as security staff work to prevent Khalife from leaving the country.
Police have issued an alert to UK ports and airports about his escape and passengers are now stuck in long queues.
Khalifa is believed to be “most likely” still in the London area – but has links to the North West and could be “anywhere in the UK”.
He was working in the kitchen and was wearing a chef’s uniform, and is believed to have held on to the truck’s straps to escape.
Khalife was last seen wearing a uniform of a white T-shirt, red and white checkered pants and brown steel toed boots, officers confirmed.
A former soldier has been accused of planting fake bombs at a British military base.
He has a slim build, has short brown hair and is about 6ft 2in tall.
The Sun has learned that Cat B’s prison has since been closed following the escape.
Metohija police confirmed the alert sent by terror cops to police forces and law enforcement agencies across the country – including those at ports and borders.
Khalifa has a military background and previously served in the British Army.
He is currently awaiting trial for criminal offenses of terrorism.
It is alleged that Khalifa left three canisters of wires at MOD Stafford in January this year.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard he left the device “with the intention of causing another to believe that the object would explode or catch fire”.
The full terrorism charges also say he “extracted” personal information about soldiers from the Defense Department’s Joint Personnel Management system that was “likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.”
Khalife has links to the Kingston area with the Met Police believing he is most likely still in London.
However, there are concerns he could have traveled further with major airports across the country under attack.
Terrorist cops are desperately looking for Khalife and are making sure no one gets through security without rigorous checks.
Security queues at Glasgow and Manchester airports have slowed as officials tighten security and keep a close eye on the IDs of anyone planning to catch a flight.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s counter-terrorism command, said: “We have a team of officers carrying out extensive and urgent inquiries to locate and detain Khalife as soon as possible.
“However, the public can also help us and if anyone sees Khalife or has any information about where he might be, please call 999 or immediately.
“I also want to reassure the public that we have no information to suggest, nor any reason to believe, that Khalifa poses a threat to the general public, but our advice is that if you see him, do not approach him and call 999 immediately.”
A Prison Service spokesman said: “We are working with the City Police to recapture this prisoner and are urgently investigating how he escaped.”
If anyone sees Khalife, they are advised not to approach him but to call 999 immediately, quoting reference CAD 1631/06SEP23.
Around 1,300 convicts are housed at Wandsworth Prison with famous ex-prisoners including tennis legend Boris Becker.
Wimbledon champion Becker served time in Wandsworth for fraud before being released last December.
