Leonard wants nothing more than to get out of Sheldon’s roommate agreement and start a new life with Penny, but a small part of him will miss Sheldon. They had some subtle moments as best friends that should be appreciated and remembered by fans.
When Professor Proton passed away
Professor Proton was Sheldon’s hero growing up. Years later, when he met Professor Proton in a pharmacy, they struck up an unexpected friendship. But when Professor Proton dies, Sheldon is left in shock. He and Professor Proton are not close by any means, but Sheldon respects him greatly.
That day, Sheldon took a nap and was visited by Professor Proton in his dream. When he woke up, Leonard was there checking on him and making sure he was okay. In a sweet moment, Shelton hugged Leonard without saying a word. It was one of those moments that left Leonard (and fans) speechless.
When Leonard bailed Sheldon out of jail
In “Status Is Burning”, Sheldon struggles to cope with the constant changes in his life and has a minor breakdown. The only thing that brings him happiness is jumping on a cross-country train.
Sheldon eventually returned to California but was stranded in Arizona because someone robbed him and took his clothes. Shelton was detained at an Arizona police station and needed a ride home. The only person Sheldon wants to call is his best friend Leonard (much to Amy’s chagrin).

Sheldon and Leonard were on their way to a meeting when they suddenly realized they were not far from Skywalker Ranch. Since they were pressed for time, they pulled over to the side of the road to see if they could move on. The security guard was nice and told them they were not allowed into the hotel, but he would get them a t-shirt or two to drive home. However, Sheldon is too close to happiness. He escaped from the car and ran to the house, where he was quickly tasered by a guard. Sheldon and Leonard were then thrown into a holding cell until they were allowed to leave. Rather than viewing it as one of the worst experiences of their lives, they viewed it as a magical adventure because of what they saw and how close they were.
Sheldon covers up for Leonard as he sleeps with Priya
When Raj’s sister Priya comes to town, Sheldon discovers that Leonard slept with her. He’s hurt mostly because Leonard broke the roommate agreement, but he also feels bad for Raj. In order to save Leonard from being scolded by his friends, Sheldon covers for Leonard and makes up a lie for him to tell his friends. Leonard isn’t really convinced by this lie, but Sheldon supports him regardless.
They’re not ready to leave each other yet
When Sheldon and Penny got engaged, Sheldon knew his one-on-one time with Leonard was dwindling. To make life easier for Sheldon, Leonard and Penny agree to keep their old living arrangements. (They do live across the hall, after all.) As time passes and Leonard becomes frustrated with putting his life on hold for his friend, things come to a head. The two friends came and went, venting their dissatisfaction. They eventually realize that the reason they’re upset about each other is because they love each other and are nervous about the future. They agree to put down their daggers and be kinder to each other.

They had a big wedding with all their family and friends in attendance, and Leonard was chosen as best man. The two friends shared a special moment before the big day, where Leonard told Sheldon that he wasn’t his problem anymore — he was Amy’s problem. Sheldon jokes that he’ll always be Leonard’s problem, and they happily embrace.
Sheldon’s Toast
In “Bon Voyage,” Leonard gets the chance to work on an offshore project with Stephen Hawking. Both Penny and Sheldon are sad that Leonard left them, but promise that they will take care of each other. They threw him a going away party and Sheldon told the room that Leonard was his best friend and wished him the best. After Leonard left, Sheldon and Penny became closer friends and learned to trust each other. It also deepened their connection with Leonard.
Goodbye on the train
Sheldon is not good at change. He’s a guy who loves consistency and what he does. He panics when unexpected obstacles stand in his way. In “Status Burns,” Sheldon continues to see changes, panicking after discovering that the comic book store burned down. He fled to the train station for comfort. When Sheldon didn’t come home, Leonard became worried and made every effort to find him. Because of their friendship, Leonard found Sheldon and told him that he would miss him while his eyes filled with tears.
Leonard’s nose surgery
Is there anything cuter than Leonard getting nose surgery and Sheldon doing everything he can to stop him? Leonard tells Sheldon and Penny that he’s been having trouble breathing for years and is finally able to do something about it. Sheldon was against the surgery because he found Leonard’s snoring comforting. He also worried about losing Leonard if the surgery went wrong. Watching these two go to great lengths to save each other’s feelings is what being best friends is all about.

In season three, Leonard’s mother, Beverly, comes to town to visit Leonard. Sadly for him, the trip turned sour. It was clearer than ever that he and his mother would never have a close relationship. She tells more about the ups and downs of their family than Leonard does! After hearing that his parents were getting divorced and the family dog died, Leonard went into his room to sulk. Sheldon knocked on the door, cutely trying to make him feel better. This doesn’t work out the way he expected, but it proves that Sheldon truly cares about his friends. “Remember, Leonard. Where your biological family fails you, you always have me,” Sheldon said.
