The Bold and the Beautiful
The Bold and the Beautiful, often referred to as B&B, is an American television soap opera created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell for CBS. Its premiere date was March 23, 1987, and it was introduced as a sister show to the Bells’ other soap opera, The Young and the Restless. Over the years, several characters from both shows have crossed over to the other, further connecting their storylines. The series is set in Los Angeles, California, and revolves around the Forrester family and their haute couture business.
The show boasts an ensemble cast, with John McCook portraying Eric Forrester and Katherine Kelly Lang as Brooke Logan, two of its longest-serving actors. Since its debut, The Bold and the Beautiful has gained immense popularity, becoming the most-watched soap opera worldwide, with an estimated audience of 26.2 million viewers.
As of 2010, it consistently ranked second in the weekly Nielsen Ratings for daytime dramas. Notably, the series has received significant recognition, having won 77 Daytime Emmy Awards, including three for Outstanding Drama Series in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
On September 7, 2011, the show made the switch to Wide Screen, becoming the second-to-last American soap opera to do so. At that time, B&B was the third-to-last American soap opera to transition to the Wide Screen, with the cancellation of ABC’s One Life to Live preceding it. While Guiding Light and As The World Turns continued broadcasting in 4:3 format, B&B adapted to the new standard.
It stands as the youngest daytime soap opera airing in the United States, marking its thirtieth anniversary on March 23, 2017. The serial reached a significant milestone, airing its 9,000th episode on April 18, 2023. CBS has renewed the series to run through the 2023–2024 television season.
