The Chase contestants make show history by winning the biggest jackpot ever on ITV show

HISTORY was made tonight on The Chase as contestants hit the biggest jackpot ever.

It was a grueling finish as two aspiring quizzers made it to the final round to face off against Paul Sinha aka The Sinnerman.

Bradley Walsh, 64, was once again ready to ask the tough questions.

The four contestants were whittled down to two as Karen and Ian collected the incredible prize money in a head-to-head battle with Paul.

A staggering £100,000 was up for grabs, meaning each player would take home £50,000 if they won – the biggest prize in The Chase’s history.

However, the pair only managed to get 16 questions correct in the final round, meaning a few back-and-forths will be required.

“It used to be a winning score, we hit the post of par, so now we have to pray we get a few putbacks,” Bradley explained to the nervous contestants.

The ITV presenter added: “I’d say at least three of us.”

As the round wore on, there were more opportunities to push Sinnerman back, but only two were executed.

With 14 seconds on the clock, Bradley asked the quiz master one last question.

However, Chaser answered the last trade deadline question incorrectly, meaning Bradley’s team had another chance to win.

Things were looking promising for Paul, 54, as he had eight seconds to spare and just one more question to answer.

Chase Christmas series host Bradley Walsh shocked as Dr Zoe Williams revealed a surprising TV past

Clearly stressed and confused, he failed to give a straight answer when asked about playing Lesley Manville in the mystery BBC sitcom.

In a fit of frustration, he hunched over the table with his head in his hands as the answer came to him.

The team also answered incorrectly as they misidentified EastEnders as a comedy, but with only one second left on the clock by then, it was too late.

Bradley kept to the formality and even asked the last question, faced with a loud interruption from Paul, who shouted the word “green!”

The Chase: The current line-up of the Chaser on the ITV show

The Chase first premiered on ITV in 2009 and has since become a firm favorite with viewers. The list of professional quizzers (‘chasers’) has grown significantly since the launch of the show.

  • Mark Labbett (2009 – present): Known as ‘The Beast’, Mark is a former maths teacher and previously won £32,000 on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Mark also reprized his role as a hunter in the American and Australian versions of the series.
  • Shaun Wallace (2009 – present): Shaun, a lawyer and former Mastermind champion, calls himself the ‘Dark Destroyer’. Shaun appeared in the Australian version of The Chase. In 2008, he finished runner-up to Barry Simmons in Are You an Egghead?, a competition to find a new member of the BBC’s quiz team at the time.
  • Anne Hegerty (2010 – present): A former contestant on Mastermind, Fifteen To One and Are You an Egghead?, Anne is referred to as ‘The Governess’. Since joining The Chase, she has appeared on I’m A Celebrity… in 2018.
  • Paul Sinha (2011-present): Comedian and qualified doctor Paul joined the cast of Chaser in 2011, taking on the moniker ‘The Sinnerman’. He has appeared on The Weakest Link, University Challenge and Brain of Britain. In 2018, Paul starred in series 8 of the popular game Taskmaster.
  • Jenny Ryan (2015 – present): Known as ‘The Vixen’, Jenny was previously in the winning team on Only Connect. She also appeared in Mastermind, The Weakest Link and Fifteen To One before joining The Chase in 2015.
  • Darragh Ennis (2020 – present): A postdoctoral researcher, Darragh joined The Chase in 2020 as ‘The Menace’. He is the first former contestant to join the lineup, having been part of the winning team against Paul Sinha in 2017.

But it wasn’t like that because the studio music was blaring and the winning contestants were hugging each other.

“That was close,” Bradley remarked as a visibly shocked Ian had tears in his eyes.

“Six attempts to push, only two completed out of those six, need a hound [just] one.”

The biggest single win so far was £80,000, when a man called Dan beat Chaser Jenny Ryan in August 2022.

Previous top players include Eden, who beat stubborn Darragh Ennis to win £75,000 in August 2021, and Judith, who won £70,000 against Paul in 2019.
