Fans The Gilded Age they’re not used to seeing star Morgan Spector dressed like that!

The actor, 43, is dressed head to toe as ruthless industrialist George Russell in Max’s period drama set in 1880s New York. The Russells represent new money, which the established elite do not like.

Carrie Coon, 41, portrays George’s social-climbing wife Bertha, and Spector playfully paid tribute to his costar in his latest gym selfie.

In a photo posted to his Instagram story on Wednesday, a sweaty Spector is seen wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with Bertha’s name and face — and little else.

“@carriecoon without socks just wasn’t classy enough,” Spector tagged his costar.

The actor flexed his quads under what we hope are very short shorts.

The Gilded Age is a favorite among fans of historical dramas, and he created and wrote it Downton Abbey‘with Julian Fellowes.

Unlike Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age is set in America – New York City to be exact – although many scenes were filmed in New England.

“There is a lot of overlap between the New York and Newport locations,” location manager Lauri Pitkus told PEOPLE last November. “Because we have these beautifully decorated, unique and original bedrooms to choose from, we shoot most of the ones in Newport and cheat them because they exist in New York homes.”

In addition to the magnificent castles, the spectators are also attracted by the lavish costumes. For the female cast, this includes wearing corsets that cinch the waist.

“It was physically and mentally exhausting, I couldn’t sleep on my side for a long time because my ribs hurt a lot,” explained actress Louisa Jacobson, who plays Marian in the series. “That’s when I realized I really needed to loosen this up. After every shoot or between sets, I’d ask my dresser to untie the corset so I could rest. They were called corset breaks.”
