It was a routine exercise for Gunner and his instructor that day. Gunneg and his grip are from Virginia to do this exercise. They were at the Living History Ranch in South Carolina’s Kings Mountain State Park when something bothered Gunner.
He escapes his handler and runs into the woods. It happened around 15:00. Although knowing the area, but in the middle of the vast mountains and forests, it will be very difficult to find the whereabouts of this K9 dօg.
But they will certainly try. And the search for Gunner begins. They sent teams to track K9 from South and North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama and Indiana to conduct the search for the missing K9 dog.
They used all their resources to find Gunner, from other K9 dogs to ATVs and even a helicopter. They won’t stop to find their canine partner.
They did this entire search while they were still conducting the exercise. The search also included help and assistance from the Gaston County Sheriff, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and SLED.
Since the presence of civilians could frighten Gunner and cause him to flee again, the sheriff’s office asked civilians to allow experts to conduct searches.
“We know there are people out there who want to help. We’re just asking that you drive to Kings Mountain State Park, stay on the main roads, and don’t walk through the woods so you don’t interrupt hand training. K9 gun in the woods,” the York County Sheriff’s Office said.
The search in the vast forest lasted. It was the next morning and Gunner still hadn’t been found.
Where could he be? The search lasted about 25 hours. But in the end, Gunner was found! He is found by the last group of investigators, who have just begun their search. They found Gunner near the Horse/Primitive Campground cold, wet, and thirsty. On the other hand, he is in good health.
Investigators secured Gunner to make sure he wouldn’t escape again. Sheriff Kevin Tolson of the York County Sheriff’s Office said Gunner may have seen the deer and ran towards it. His desire for the deer was great, and that’s why he got rid of his guide.
He also said that Gunner must have been hunting that deer all night to account for his exhaustion. His manager burst into tears when they were finally reunited. Gunner even got up and hugged his handler when he returned.
