She made her comments shortly before co-host Jermaine Jenas was sacked, with the former footballer, 41, sacked from his role following complaints of alleged “inappropriate behaviour”.

Alex, 47, said for her that “longevity is key” as she spoke about her future to the Beeb earlier this month.

She told Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast: “I can’t believe I’m still here.

“I just go in, do the work and hope no one notices I’m still there. I just love it.

“People often ask, ‘What do you want to do next? Don’t you want to do a big entertainment show?’ I say, ‘What do you mean?’ I’m really happy.”

Alex couldn’t help but imagine then, as she admitted that she didn’t have much of a desire for any fancy, shiny floor party projects.

Instead, the star admitted that she is exactly where she wants to be in her career.

“All new projects are exciting and present a new challenge, but actually it would be bad for anyone to neglect bread and butter,” she added.

“All the extra parts are really fun and exciting, but really for me longevity is key.

Jermaine Jenas says he regrets ‘cheating’ and isn’t sure if his wife will forgive him

“I want to be there. Being the primary breadwinner, I want to be able to provide security for the children.”

The Sun revealed that a member of staff accused married father-of-four Jenas of sending “flirty” messages before more people came forward to complain about his behavior in the workplace.

An investigation was launched and the star was eventually fired.

In an exclusive interview hours after he was axed, Jermaine told The Sun he wanted to apologize to the women involved because the BBC wouldn’t let him.

The sacked Match of the Day and One Show host said: “I shouldn’t have contacted the women at all.”

The shaken former Premier League and England footballer slammed the BBC for the way it handled his poshness.

A tearful Jenas, 41, said: “The handling of the situation was not great. It was fast – and hell.

“I don’t think there was a plan for when they would announce that I was fired.

“I think they were telling different departments different things. I think it’s shocking.”

But the viewers were annoyed. One Show presenters Clara Amfo and Alex failed to talk about last week’s situation.

One person wrote on social media at the beginning of the episode: “I wonder if their now infamous ex-colleague will comment?!”
