However, in the finale, everything is turned upside down by a scene that almost everyone will be talking about for a long time. It was such an effective reaffirmation of the idea that Ozzy is despicable that I almost had to give him a standing ovation. I’ve watched this episode twice now, and trust me, when you discover those techniques that make you feel good about things, it becomes infinitely more impactful the second time around. The art of storytelling here is truly top-notch.
How Penguin Avoided the MCU’s Huge Problems

Cristin Milioti once again delivers a stellar performance (mark this on your bingo card), in the same interrogation scene where she delivers a stellar performance in viscerally touching material. Too many of Batman’s villains have been classified as mentally unstable, but Milioti’s laser-guided attack on Oz’s most important relationships is a case study in revenge. The emotional cracks that emerge are equally important, and Sofia is often at her best in the moments when Milioti’s humanity is crushed. I want more of her.
Meanwhile, Deidre O’Connell is doing what she’s always been good at Penguinplaying two sides of Frances Cobb – cruel and calculating (for good reason, of course) but defeated by her illness. Through Julian Rush’s flashback device and Sophia’s interrogation, O’Connell’s performance caps off one of the most claustrophobic, intense scenes I’ve seen in a long time.
And then there’s Rhenzy Feliz; Penguin His performances are never given to lavish grandeur. Victor is more subtle, but no less polished: a street kid archetype with depth, and the way he establishes the dynamic with Oz is so good that I feared it would be overlooked. Without his work, this episode wouldn’t have ended the way it did at all. He probably won’t get an Emmy nomination, I’m almost guaranteed the other three will get nominated, but that would be a disappointing oversight.
