While we don’t know exactly when we can expect series 12 to return to our screens, series organist David Burville has reassured viewers that new seasons are in the works.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, the professional organ builder shared a black and white selfie from the iconic warehouse at the Weald and Downland Living Museum. In the caption, he wrote: “Congratulations all. Hope [you’re] nice weekend. I’ve been very busy with work, but I’ll be back in the warehouse soon with some interesting and unusual new items.”

While fans may have to wait a little longer for new episodes, they can be sure that the show will be on our screens for a long time. Host Jay Blades revealed that the show has been in the works for another two years while speaking at the BAFTA TV Awards in May of this year.

“I think we have two more years if I’m not mistaken,” he said after hitting the gong every day. “We’re going to do a lot more. We just won a BAFTA so I think they’ll want us to keep broadcasting.”

The series is loved for its touching stories behind precious items brought in for repair, often bringing viewers to tears. The final season, a special episode to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS, is no different.

Children’s author Michael Rosen walked through the door of the warehouse, carrying a patient’s diary kept by nurses as he fell ill in the hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bookbinder Chris Shaw soon began writing a diary, which was used to document Michael’s time in intensive care after he was in a coma for 40 days.

“Every day they write an entry, which is what really bugs me,” Michael explains. “I think of them and the people who took care of me, saying ‘Today I held your hand,’ singing to me and saying things to me every day.”
