Jason “Sundance” Head has released his first statement since returning home from the hospital after accidentally shooting himself at his Texas ranch.
The country singer’s agent, Trey Newman, confirmed this to PEOPLE Vote the Season 11 winner was hunting alone in the woods when he was shot in the stomach around 4-4:30 PM local time on November 15.
Sundance’s wife, Misty Head, shared several updates via her Facebook account, revealing that the “Darlin’ Don’t Go” singer, 46, was home from the hospital and in stable condition as of Nov. 16 — though she noted that “bleeding heavily through his bandages” during the “difficult” three-hour car ride home.
Sundance took to Facebook to personally update fans on his condition in a self-recorded video on Sunday, November 17. He titled the post “Statement – Part 1”.

The singer-songwriter begins his message — which was recorded in front of a Christmas tree at his home — by thanking God and the health care workers at UT Tyler Hospital who helped keep him alive during his harrowing experience.
“I was sure I was going to die,” he continued, “It was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me… But I really wanted to come here and tell you that I’m alive. It hurts me a lot. I was accidentally shot in the stomach. I was alone.”
“I still have a lot of life left and that’s what I was telling these ladies and gentlemen [were] trying to keep me alive throughout the whole process, man. I’m just, really, so grateful for the first responses. They did a great job,” he continued.
Sundance also expressed his deep gratitude to the stranger who stopped to help him while he was “bleeding” on the side of the road.

“Without you, man, I don’t think I would have made it,” he said of the good Samaritan. “I was bleeding there. I didn’t have anyone to help me, and you know, I had a dozen cars that saw me and looked at me with their eyes, and they didn’t stop.”
“I tell you what, my friend, I was at the end of the road,” he continued. “So I’m really, really happy and grateful for a couple of gentlemen who turned around, and I want to tell you honestly that I love you and I’m so grateful that you were in my life at that time. And it was not a random meeting between us. And I look forward to spending more time with you in the future.”

The singer-songwriter also thanked fans for their thoughts and prayers.
“So I really love you, really thank you, and I look forward to sharing the rest of the story with you,” he concluded, saying he plans to post more about the experience — including how the accident happened — in the days and weeks to come.
The country singer — known for his big personality and tender heart — was on Blake Shelton’s team during the 2016 season. Vote and quickly became a fan favorite. He previously competed in the 2007 season american idolwhere he reached the semi-finals.
