Instagram recently unveiled its new social media platform, Topics on July 6. It is considered Twitter’s strongest competitor. On the first day of launch, the application broke a record of 50 million users.
However, Europe does not use threads at all. Why?
Can people all over Europe access the themes?
Are not. People from Europe cannot access the theme. Many of the Themes features are similar to Twitter, and this fact has caused some controversy and reduced revenue. This has prompted tech companies to consider potential alternatives. Instagram is popular because it is primarily a visual content app, Instagram Themes is different.
However, the situation in Europe is not the same as in the rest of the world. Europe will only be able to see the introduction of Threads after Meta decides to do so. Matt Pollard, a spokesman for Meta, released a statement saying that the company had not made Threads available to Europe due to regulatory uncertainty.
This means that Meta expects some clarity from the European authority responsible for regulating such apps. The app is seeking approval from the European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, so that Meta can publish Themes in EU countries.
Need approval
In March 2022, the European Parliament passed a law called the European Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA is considered one of the most stringent privacy and data protection laws worldwide. The main goal of the law is to limit the influence of big tech companies and balance regulation over other companies. As a result, this affects the quality of online users’ experience and choices.
