Around 7:15 a.m., patrol officers inspected an abandoned vehicle in an unauthorized location at Manchester Airport.
During the investigation – in which it was determined that the vehicle was not insured – the policemen confronted the man, during which three of our unarmed policemen were attacked and left with injuries.
A Taser was deployed before three people – a man and two women – were taken into custody on suspicion of assault by police.
All were released on bail pending further investigation.
Investigations are ongoing, including a review of body-worn video, CCTV and other available footage.
Attacks on officers are unacceptable and we will not hesitate to take action if any criminal offenses are discovered.
The alleged attack on police is the second in two months at the airport, which serves nearly 30 million people each year.
Chaos previously unfolded at Manchester Airport in a separate incident in July in which three police officers were injured.
Videos of the incident have gone viral on the internet, showing police officers being attacked and a man being kicked in the face.
In relation to the incident, GMP said the four men remain on police bail.
Meanwhile, officers have submitted a “comprehensive file of evidence” to the Crown Prosecution Service as the investigation continues.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said a GMP officer is under criminal investigation for assault in connection with the brothers’ arrests, while another officer is the subject of a criminal investigation for an alleged assault.
