Tiffany Haddish returns to the site. The comedian, actress and producer, 44, announced exclusively to PEOPLE that she will release her second book next year. I I curse you with joy, a collection of essays and stories, will be published in May 2024 by Diversion Books. “I’m so excited to share with my readers the rollercoaster of success I’ve been on and show them that being famous doesn’t mean I’m not human,” Haddish tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “I find joy in the hardest things in life, which you will all be able to read about in this new book.”

I curse you with joy will explore the ups and downs of Haddish’s life on and off screen, and what she’s learned along the way. Haddish will write about the lasting legacy of her childhood trauma, as well as the “bittersweet” reunion she had with her estranged father after nearly 20 years of separation.
She will also explore the challenges of being a black woman in the entertainment industry, where she made history as the first black female comedian to host Saturday night liveand achieved roles in numerous successful films such as Girls trip and Haunted palace. Haddish also won a Grammy Award for Comedy Album for her stand-up special Black mitzvahand became the second black woman to do it, after Whoopi Goldberg.

She published her debut memoir, The last black unicorn, in 2017, where she wrote about her experience in foster care as a child and finding her voice in comedy. Haddish also published a children’s book, Layla the last black unicorn2022, about a young black unicorn going to school for the first time.”I think everyone is struggling with, ‘Who am I? Why am I here? What is my purpose? How do I fit in?'” Haddish told PEOPLE 2022 “And just being able to take a moment and say, I’m fine the way I am. Even if someone else disagrees. As long as I feel fine the way I am, nothing needs to change.”

On November 24, Haddish was arrested on charges of being under the influence of drugs after falling asleep at the wheel of her car. She said Party tonight, “I’m going to get help to learn about balance and boundaries,” and explained to the newspaper that her car, a Tesla, was parked alone when she fell asleep. He was blocking parts of the street when she was arrested. Haddish also praised the Beverly Hills Police Department’s (BHPD) handling of the incident.
