He started his career as a theater artist at the National Theater of India, Bombay. He made his Bollywood debut in 1986 with the film Pyaar Ke Do Pal.
He has acted in Bollywood films “Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin”, “Umar 55 Ki Dil Bachpan Ka”, “Bol Radha Bol”, “Andaz Apna Apna” and “Mr. Bechara”. He broke his comedian image by playing a serious role in the film Waqt (1993). He made his television debut with Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984).
