Tim Keller News
Tim Keller, a well-known minister of the Presbyterian Church in America who established a group of evangelical congregations in New York City, has passed away. He was 72.
Keller, a well-known evangelist known for his witty and charming style, started Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan in 1989 and expanded it into the centre of a network of churches all across the city. “The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Scepticism,” his book from 2008, made it to The New York Times bestseller list. He has sold more than 3 million copies of his books.
He revealed in June 2020 that he had pancreatic cancer and had since been receiving treatment. Keller’s son Michael announced on social media on Thursday (May 18) that his father had been discharged from the hospital and would now receive hospice care at home.
Tim Keller, the founder and longtime senior pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, passed away this morning at the age of 72, trusting in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, wrote Bruce Terrell in an email announcing his passing. Terrell is a member of the Redeemer Leadership Network.
We will always be appreciative of his leadership, generosity of spirit, and commitment to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Although we will miss him being here, we are confident that he is celebrating with his Saviour in heaven, Terrell said.
Timothy James Keller, who was born on September 23, 1950, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was raised in a Lutheran church and eventually joined the Evangelical Congregational Church. His mother wished for him to become a pastor. But while attending Bucknell University, he, like many other college students, lost interest in following Christianity.
Keller later recalled his conversion experience as a result of his participation in an InterVarsity student ministry, where he was taught how to study the Bible by a ministry leader named Barbara Boyd.
In his book, “Jesus is the King,” he claimed that “during college, the Bible came alive in a way that is hard to describe.” “The best way I can explain it is that, before to the shift, I questioned and examined the Bible in great detail. However, following the transition, it seemed as though the Bible, or perhaps Someone via the Bible, was studying me, probing me, and examining me.
