Timothée Chalamet Raps, Sings and Shows off Comedy Skills While Hosting Saturday Night Live

Timothée Chalamet hosts for the second time Saturday night live he showed not only his comedic skills, but also how versatile a performer he is.

The Oscar-nominated actor, 27, returned to the iconic sketch comedy show to host the fourth episode of the 49th season on Saturday night, where he was joined as musical guest by indie supergroup boygenius.

He last hosted during the COVID 2020 and had to wear a mask for the duration of the show. This time he was in the mood to celebrate the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which came in the middle of his week of rehearsals for the show.

During his opening monologue, he ignored the fact that, during the strike, actors were not allowed to shut down their projects, such as his upcoming film Wonka.

“The only thing I was allowed to talk about was that I have a commercial coming out. It’s a Snow perfume commercial directed by Martin Scorsese. And let me tell you, when you get that call that Martin Scorsese wants to direct you, the first thing you think is, ‘Man, I really hope it’s a perfume ad,’ he joked.

But now that the strike is over, Chalamet said, “It’s like we’re all coming back to this magical world, where actors can talk about their projects again.” With that, the lights dimmed and he grabbed the staff.

“Come with me, and you’ll be, in a world of shameless self-promotion”, he sang to the tune of “Pure Imagination” from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory of the 1971 film. However, the lyrics were changed to refer to his upcoming films.

“If you want to see a three and a half hour movie, go see it Killers of the Flower Moonor just wait for part 2 of Dune. Just make sure before you go to the bathroom,” he sang about another of his films, the Dune a sequel that should be released in 2024.

SNL cast member Marcello Hernández then joined him on stage and they rapped together about having a baby face: “Listen, I have a baby face, but my hips don’t lie. Say I’m a bad kid, I’m a bad guy. I have a baby face, but I’m hung like my dad. Trust me baby. This will be the best you’ve ever had.”

In his first sketch, Chalamet played a young and successful rapper named SmokeCheddaThaAssGetta who was a guest on a talk show with Mary J. Blige (Punkie Johnson), Rick Rubin (James Austin Johnson) and Cornel West (Kenan Thompson) for the 50th anniversary of hip – hop.

Asked who his favorite rapper of all time is, Chalamet’s rapper character replied, “That security girl. When she says ‘Nationwide’s on your side,’” he sang, “Man, that slap bro. Rap that ‘Nationwide is on your side’. You know what I’m saying? That fire there, man.”

Then, filled with muscles bursting from the veins, Chalamet played a gym worker in “Gym Call.” What would have been a simple phone call with a gym member turned into an exercise in patience for ‘Tracy’ Heidi Gardner, who gave up trying to communicate and ended the call with “Your brain is broken”.

In a video that looks pretty epic, with special effects and CGI, that looks like something out there DuneChalament played a warrior sent on a mission to destroy a beast intent on “breaking the human race” — a giant horse that was once a tiny horse and his best friend.

“It’s extra bad in the future tonight,” Chalamet sang, once again showing off his musical prowess.

In other sketches Chalamet played Troye Sivan, an Australian singer-turned-actor who appears in Sarah Sherman’s hallucinations; depressing, [and really bad] Songwriter; and The Man in the Moon who tries to encourage an orphan to look on the bright side of life, only to find out that she is a 28-year-old sociopath.

And finally, Chalamet appeared as a voice artist recording a soothing audio book. When the producers are unimpressed with his performance, he is eventually replaced by none other than Alec Baldwin, making his 48th appearance on SNL.

During Chalamet’s first appearance as host in 2020, he told the audience how excited he was to take over the show.

“It is a great honor to be the host Saturday night live in New York!” He said. “Man, I’m so happy to be here. I’m from New York, I live in New York. I actually grew up in an art building in Hell’s Kitchen about 12 minutes from here.”

“Before I was born, my mom was a dance teacher, but she would occasionally work in the background Saturday night live“, continued the star. “In fact, we have a clip of her in the Dan Carvey and Chris Farley sketch ‘Massive Head Wound Harry.'”

Since then, the Golden Globe nominee has been busy with several upcoming projects and spending time with Kylie Jenner, who didn’t seem to be in SNL study on Saturday night, but supported Chalamet in the after party in NYC later that night.
