The airline already has flights to Düsseldorf, western Germany, from the small airport, which is about a third the size of London’s Heathrow.
The flights to Berlin will operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, according to Chronicle Live, and will be the only route connecting the northeast to the German capital.
The seats are now on sale at a special price of £44.99.
Berlin is a favorite among tourists – for its cultural history, vibrant food scene, great beer and nightlife.
The city certainly has a colorful past, after it was destroyed by World War II and the subsequent erection of the Berlin Wall.
But it has been rebuilt in recent decades and now serves as a cultural hub, full of galleries and museums – many of which commemorate those lost in the Holocaust.
Berlin’s gastronomic scene is internationally renowned, showcasing top cuisine not only from Germany, but from around the world.
It is especially popular at Christmas time, when tourists can enjoy a pint of beer or a pint of warn glühwein (mulled wine) at one of the Christmas markets.
There are plenty of other outdoor beer choices in the city, like the Prater Garten — also known as the city’s oldest beer hall.
It is still going strong after first opening in 1837 and still attracts visitors in large numbers.
Exploring Berlin: sports, food and historical sights
And those inclined at night can head to one of Berlin’s world-famous techno clubs, such as Berghain.
Berlin is also home to some great cheap football matches.
Ryan Gray, travel writer for The Sun, recommends watching a Bundesliga game featuring local rivals such as Union and Hertha.
News of the new flights comes after a new high-speed train linking Berlin to Paris was announced last month.
Passengers will be able to get from Berlin to Paris in just eight hours using the service provided by the German train operator Deutsche Bahn and the French SNCF.
The first departure is planned for December.
