Tirath Singh Rawat is an Indian politician who became the 9th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in March 2021. He is also a Lok Sabha member from the Garhwal constituency in Uttarakhand.

Tirath Singh Rawat was born on Thursday, April 9, 1964 (59 years old in 2023) in Sinro village in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. His star sign is Aries. Student Politics
During his college years, Rawat joined the ABVP, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and became active in student politics. During his involvement in student politics, he became the organizing secretary of the Uttarakhand chapter of the ABVP and was later elected as the national secretary of the ABVP. In 1992, he was also elected president of the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University Student Union.
Mainstream politics
In 1997, Rawat was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Prior to this, he served as the vice-president of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. From 2000 to 2002, he served as the first education minister of Uttarakhand. In 2007, he was appointed as the state secretary of the BJP Uttarakhand. In 2012, he contested the legislative elections for the first time and was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Chaubattakhal constituency. In 2013, he was appointed as the BJP Uttarakhand Governor. In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time and was subsequently elected as the MP from the Garhwal constituency (Lok Sabha). In March 2021, Tirath Singh Rawat was appointed as the ninth Chief Minister of Uttarakhand after the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, tendered his resignation a year in advance.
On July 2, 2021, he resigned as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

- In March 2021, days after taking over as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Tirath Singh made a controversial speech against the practice of women wearing “ripped jeans”. He made the allegedly discriminatory remarks against women at a seminar organised by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun. Recalling an anecdote, Tirath said he was shocked to see a woman running an NGO wearing a pair of ripped jeans and was worried about the precedent she would set for the society. After the speech went viral, Tirath had to face the wrath of netizens and opposition leaders.
- A few days ago, Tirat Singh caused a controversy by making a statement about women wearing ripped jeans. A few days later, he caused another controversy by saying that if people want more food rations, they should have more children. He said:
Those who have ten children get fifty kilos, those who have twenty get one quintal. Those who have two children get ten kilos. People build shops and find buyers. Who is to blame? Now you are jealous. When you had time, you only had two children. Why didn’t you have twenty?”
In his speech, he also misquoted an important historical fact, confusing Britain and the United States. He said,
India is doing a better job in handling the pandemic compared to other countries. On the other hand, the US, which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the entire world, is struggling to control the virus”

- He was reportedly arrested during the Ram Temple movement in the early 1990s and jailed for two months.
