TLC Teases TV Show, Says Team Behind ‘Hamilton’ Is Involved with Their Broadway Musical

TLC is working on exciting projects!

During a Con 90s panel moderated by PEOPLE Senior Editor Breanne L. Heldman on Sunday, TLC’s Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins teased, “We’re working on a Broadway show.”

Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas stepped in to reveal that some Broadway heavyweights have signed on for this musical. “Great thing, we have many people who worked on it Hamilton working with us for ours,” Thomas, 52, told the crowd at the Tampa Convention Center in Florida.

Watkins, 53, then hinted at another project she and Thomas are working on. “That means we’ll have music for a play and a TV show that we can’t talk about,” she said.

*NYSNC’s Joey Fatone, who participated in the panel along with Howie Dorough and AJ McLean of TLC and the Backstreet Boys, joked that he wanted to be in the musical.

“I want to audition!” Fatone, 46, said.

TLC mentioned the Broadway show at last year’s ’90s Con, but was hesitant to share too many details at the time, including an opening date. “We’re not going to do it all right now,” Watkins said at an event in March 2022. “It’s being worked on, but we’re writers so it’s coming together.”

TLC isn’t the only comeback music group making moves. McLean, 45, teased during Sunday’s panel that “something big is brewing” on the Backstreet Boys side as well.

“It’s like it’s big,” he emphasized. “I can’t say anything more about it, but it’s big and it’s never been done before.”

McLean noted that the group will be returning to the studio and noted that many of the band members are also busy with solo projects.

“Brian [Littrell] doing a Christian album, Nick [Carter]apparently he’s going on tour. I’m finally going to release my solo album after saying it for years. I know Howie’s working on something,” said the father of two. “But actually, tomorrow and Tuesday, we’re going to be back in meetings to talk about next year.”

In April 2024, the Backstreet Boys will head to Mexico for their Backstreet’s Back at the Beach shows.

“We’ve probably done five cruise ship-like trips in the last 10 years,” McLean told PEOPLE last month. “We did one in Europe and the others were transferred from Miami. We would go out, or go to the Bahamas or go to the destination; we would get off and then get back on the ship. You’re on a cruise with 3,500 fans; you organize deck parties, themed parties, photo calls, two shows, game nights.

“We were like, ‘You know what? This time, we don’t want to be somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Why don’t we just keep our feet firmly on the sand and let’s set a destination?’ I mean, Cancún is absolutely beautiful.”

The beachside event will also feature performances by Jason DeRulo, entertainment and band-choice activities.

“We’ve got themed parties, we’ve got game nights, we’ve got 30-song shows that have been chosen by our fans now, which will be interesting,” McLean said. “We’ll see how many deep cuts pop up and how many songs we’ve been doing we can repeat. But it will be fun.”
