Tom started playing cricket while studying at Bromsgrove School in the United Kingdom. Tom attended Warwickshire County Cricket Club and played for the academy’s U-14, U-17 and U-19 teams. Tom Banton completed his formal education at Bromsgrove School and then went on to study for a degree at King’s College, Taunton.

Phil Lewis, Tom’s housemaster at college, was impressed by Tom’s performance and under his guidance, Tom preferred cricket to other sports. Steve Snell, the director of Somerset College, tried to get Tom to join the college cricket team. He was later signed by the college to become a part of their team. Tom made his Twenty20 cricket debut for Somerset in the 2017 NatWest T20 Blast and made his first-class debut for Somerset in the 2018 County Championship in September 2018. He has played for several domestic teams and leagues such as Brisbane Heat in the Australian Big Bash League and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League in December 2019. He played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 Indian Premier League. In 2017, he joined the England squad for the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Tom Banton made his T20I debut for England against New Zealand in 2019. After being selected for the England national cricket squad, he made his ODI debut on 4 February 2020 against South Africa.
