News about Tonya Harding

“I mean, this is my sanctuary and I have nothing to run away from, but I love it so much,” Harding, 47, said in an ABC News interview with Amy Robach for the two-hour series “Truth and Lies: The Tonya Harding Story”.

She practices at a rink near Portland, Oregon, three days a week, according to the former Olympic figure skater. Harding is still coached by Dody Teachman, who mentored her during the 1991 US Figure Skating Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She continues to be a formidable force. In an interview with “Truth and Lies: The Tonya Harding Story,” Teachman said, “She makes great couples, she can still spin, and, you know, we’re working on a little show for her, just so she can come over.” and she practices. She continues to be passionate about skating, and it’s part of her family.

Harding was the first American woman to successfully land a triple pole vault at the 1991 Nationals. “I want to get back to doing the things I loved to do, which is taking care of my triplets. And I’m confident that I could do it,” Harding said.

In the film “I, Tonya” the life of Harding is shown. Margot Robbie, who also works as a producer on the film, plays the role.

The film tells the story of the now famous incident in which Harding’s rival Nancy Kerrigan was struck in the right knee with a stick on January 6, 1994, while practicing for the United States Figure Skating Championships in Detroit. It was later revealed that Jeff Gillooly and Shawn Eckardt, a friend of Harding’s first ex-husband, had hired the shooter.

For their roles in the incident, Gillooly and Eckardt pleaded guilty to racketeering. Eckardt received an 18-month prison sentence, while Gillooly received two years in prison.

Harding admitted to conspiring to hinder prosecution, though he denied any involvement in the incident. He received a $160,000 fine, three years probation and 500 hours of community service as part of his sentence.

“I see Tonya in a much softer and more admirable light than ever. She is not the same person that she was then, Teachman added. She is now happily married. She is dedicated to her son that she has.
