Too Hot to Handle's Emily Miller Is Pregnant, Expecting a Baby with Cam Holmes: 'A Miracle' (Exclusive)

The parents-to-be — who previously suffered a pregnancy loss — met on the set of the second season of the Netflix reality series in 2020.

AND Too hot to handle the baby is coming in 2024!

Cast members Emily Miller and Cam Holmes are expecting a baby in June, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.

The happy news comes a year and a half after Miller, 29, and Holmes, 27, lost their pregnancy. At the time, Miller was hospitalized for an ectopic pregnancy — which occurs “when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus,” according to the Mayo Clinic — and had to have surgery to remove her fallopian tubes.

“After what happened last time, I didn’t even know if I would even want to get pregnant again if I had to go through that again,” Miller tells PEOPLE. “It sounds like a cliché, but it really is our little miracle. That’s what I’m so excited about, to be able to tell people that it’s possible.”

Just “two weeks after conception,” Miller says she instinctively knew she was pregnant again.

“I know it sounds a little crazy, but since I was already pregnant, I just had the same symptoms,” she says. “My breasts are naturally very small and they swelled up immediately. It’s just a woman’s instincts.”

Still, Miller says she didn’t “want to overdo it” and “tweak” anything, so she waited until her next missed period to take the test. Her mom was the first person Miller told, since she was living at her house while she and Holmes waited to move into their new home. (Holmes was living with friends in the meantime.)

As soon as I took the pregnancy test, I came out of the bathroom and she was literally walking past my room, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, Mom,'” Miller recalls. “We were both just hugging each other in tears. She was so good. If I walk in the door even holding a supermarket bag, she’ll say, ‘No, no, no, no, no. Let me take that. Let me take it. it.’ She was so sweet to do it. I have two brothers, so she’s been through it three times herself. She’s an absolute pro, so if I’m feeling a little sick or tired, she knows the right things to help me.”

Miller told Holmes while the couple was on the trip, she was making plans for his birthday in October.

“I was like, ‘I’m not going to tell him on his birthday. I’m going to let him have that day to himself. I’m going to tell him the day after,'” she says. “So the day after we were out for dinner, and, honestly, I wish I had recorded his reaction because it looked like someone had seen a ghost.”

– I will say that it is not the reaction I was hoping for, but he is more of a realist – he continues with a laugh. “I think because of what happened last time, he was very skeptical and just worried, I think, what it came down to. He said, ‘But what if it happens again?’ ”

Miller told PEOPLE that she and Holmes were “not really trying” to get pregnant again, so Holmes was “completely caught off guard.”

“I was actually on my period when we got pregnant,” she says. “I think that’s why he was so shocked. But after a few days of us talking, we realized this is a miracle. Now he’s so excited. We both are.”

Because there was some trepidation going into this pregnancy, Miller got an early scan at seven weeks “to make sure everything was OK.” Then, at her 12-week checkup, her doctor was satisfied that her baby looked “healthy.”

“The doctors cleared everything up for me,” she says.

Currently 14 weeks, Miller says she feels a lot of “nausea and fatigue.”

“All I do is sleep, and when I don’t sleep I feel sick, so it’s been quite difficult,” she says. “Obviously the second quarter is where it’s at.”

At 20 weeks, Miller and Holmes plan to find out the gender of their baby, but are still deciding on names.

“We’ve settled on a boy’s name,” she says. “Obviously I don’t want to give it away, but it’s sentimental. It’s my grandfather’s name, and he’s no longer with us. It’s a very sweet name and we both agree with it. We’re still struggling with the girl’s name.”

Since the baby is due on the first day of summer in June, they are considering the name Summer if it is a girl.

“I wonder, ‘Is that really a cliché?'” she says. “A boy’s name was so easy. With a girl’s name, I don’t know. It definitely turned out to be harder.”

After breaking the baby news to the rest of her family on Christmas Eve, Miller says she’s now going into nesting mode.

“Once everyone gets on board and starts texting me every day, sending me links to cute clothes and strollers and whatever, I’ll get psyched,” she says. “[And me and Cam] they’re just about to move back in together, just in time for the baby.”

As she looks to the future, Miller says she thinks she and Holmes will definitely be balanced as parents.

“We talked about this and I’m definitely going to be an assistant,” she says. “If you could see how I treated my dog [who passed], you would understand what he means. Cam’s dad was in the military, so Cam grew up with a… I wouldn’t say a strict upbringing, but there were definitely rules. So, yeah, I’m definitely going to be more mellow.”
