Tory Lanez accuses Megan Thee Stallion of weaponizing the justice system in a new lawsuit.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE from the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County, Lanez (whose real name is Daystar Peterson), 32, filed the motion on Tuesday, Dec. 24, in response to a temporary restraining order the Grammy-winning artist filed earlier this month.
The documents allege that through her attorney, Megan (whose real name is Megan Pete), 29, “improperly decided to use Los Angeles County Civil Court to file a frivolous harassment restraining order against Daystar Peterson, who had no direct contact with with Mrs. Pete.”

“When celebrities with millions of dollars and backed by large corporations disagree with freedom of speech or opinion, they weaponize the justice system, not realizing that public figures who have voluntarily catapulted themselves into the limelight are incapable of dealing with controversy and public opinion.” , partially stated in the documents.
Lanez’s lawsuit cites California Code of Civil Procedure S. 527.8, which “prohibits courts from issuing restraining orders that restrict constitutionally protected speech. The statute provides for restraining orders.”

The complaint goes into further detail: “Instead of rebutting the comment or discussing the issues raised by the defendant’s comments so that people can make up their own minds, the plaintiff succumbed to the current trend of using the legal system to try to invalidate those opinions it disagrees with.”
A representative for Megan Thee Stallion did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Earlier this month, Megan filed for a temporary restraining order against Lanez, alleging that Lanez has been harassing her from jail through social media and third parties, calling out blogger Milagro Gramz (whose real name is Milagro Elizabeth Cooper).

Megan’s claim claims that Lanez hired Cooper to “abuse, harass and further victimize” her.
“Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Ms. Pete, Mr. Peterson continues to subject her to repeated trauma and revictimization,” the motion states. The filing said the “continuous harassment” caused Megan “serious emotional distress and reputational damage.”
“MR. Peterson is fully aware of the impact of the psychological warfare he has waged against Ms. Pete, yet he continues to deputize his supporters to attack Ms. Pete’s character and integrity,” Megan’s Idea argued.
She previously filed a lawsuit against Cooper in October for allegedly harassing and “telling falsehoods” on his behalf about a shooting she and Lanez were involved in in 2020.

In 2022, Lanez was convicted of three felonies — assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm — after shooting Megan in the feet in a 2020 incident. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023, to be served at Tehachapi State Prison in California.
Lanez filed an appeal in February 2024.
Due to these circumstances, a temporary ban is unnecessary, claims Lanez. “He does not own a firearm and cannot leave his current residence. Therefore, the alleged incident (which occurred 4.5 years ago) is no longer any form of current or future threat to the person seeking protection,” Lanez’s complaint states.
“There was no direct contact of any kind” from Lanez to Megan.” Lanez is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 9 for a temporary restraining order hearing.
