Trace McSorley started as a freshman at Briar Woods High School when he played high school football. During his rookie year, he led the team to a 13-2 record and a state title. He led the team to a 15-0 record and third straight state championship during his junior year. First-team All-State honors came from the Virginia Coaches Association and Virginia Preps.
He was named the Dulles District first-team offensive player of the year and second-team all-region linebacker. After that, he appeared in a total of six games, five of which were when the game was already underway and he only played a few minutes. In the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl, his club, Penn State, was defeated 24-3 by the Georgia Bulldogs. Later in the game, his team came back, going 14 for 27, but losing 24-17.
After the New York Jets drafted Christian Hackenberg in the 2016 NFL Draft, he was named the team’s starting quarterback. After graduating as a senior, he became eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft. Additionally, he was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens with the 197th pick. He did not make his NFL debut until Week 17 of the 2019 season when he faced the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list for the 2020 season, as he remained at third baseman. After backup Griffin left the game with a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter, he entered the game. After being waived on August 31, 2021, he was re-signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.
