North Wales Police revealed they located a car partially submerged in water and on its roof during a search in the Porthmadog area.
Unfortunately, it has now been confirmed that four bodies were found in the vehicle.
Although formal identification has yet to be completed, the families of all four boys have been notified.
Supp Owain Llewelyn said: “At the moment it appears this was a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the four young men at this very difficult time.
“This has been an extensive search involving many different agencies and volunteers, and this is unfortunately not the outcome any of us would have wanted.
“We would ask that the family be afforded adequate privacy and respect.”
North Wales Police said it appears the car “went off the road”, while an investigation into the tragedy is ongoing.
The four friends, who had traveled from the Welsh coastal areas of Harlech and Porthmadog, are believed to have been heading to Eryri National Park in Snowdonia.
The group of 16- to 17-year-olds were supposed to return on Monday morning, but none of them have made contact with relatives, and all their phones have been switched off.
The teenagers were not experienced campers and had only basic equipment with them including a tent and sleeping bags.
Crystal Owen, Harvey’s mom, said earlier that she didn’t know they were going camping and thought they were staying at a friend’s grandfather’s house.
“I’m frantically worried, we haven’t slept a second, we’re desperately trying to find any trace,” she told the BBC.
“If I had known where he was going, I would not have let him go because of the winter weather conditions.
“They’re all sensitive, intelligent guys and we just hope they parked, got lost and are OK.”
Officers and rescue teams have searched a huge area of the country which has been hampered by the dangerous mountain landscape around Snowdonia.
Mountain rescuers said they searched car parks in an attempt to find the silver motorbike the boys were believed to have been traveling on.
Chris Lloyd, president of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team, said teams spent Sunday searching for the vehicle after police requested support in the search.
The boys from Shrewsbury are believed to have traveled to the Harlech and Porthmadog areas of Gwynedd near Snowdonia, now known as Eryri.
But Coastguard helicopters were seen searching Glaslyn Nature Reserve almost 50 miles away.
Shrewsbury Colleges Group – where all four boys studied – released a heartfelt message for the boys after they went missing.
A spokesman said: “The college’s thoughts are with the family and friends of the teenager missing in North Wales at the moment.
“We can confirm that all four teenagers are students at Shrewsbury Colleges Group and are studying A-levels at the college.
“This is a very worrying time and we all want them to be safe and well.”
