An inquest this week concluded that Charley had taken her own life.

Her parents Lisa and Steve Pointon told StokeonTrentLive: “Charley had a fun-loving personality with a smile that lit up a room.

“She loved her family and friends very much and had a passion for fashion and holidays, her favorite place being New York, which we visited four times.

“Charley’s death, as a family, is beyond words as we struggle to get through the days without her.

“As a family we will never come to terms with our loss and the pain we endure every day.”

The inquest heard Charley attended Discovery Academy in Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, as usual.

On February 9, she returned from a friend’s visit by 8 p.m., but the alarm went off at 10:30 p.m.

Assistant Principal Becky Luby said, “Charley went through high school the same way she faced anything new, with determination and a smile.

“Her personality shone through in the first week, helping others who found high school a bit intimidating with friendship and compassion.

“Charley was a popular girl, always willing to help others and had a large circle of friends, not only within her peer group but throughout the school.

“She always made us laugh with her quickness and was affectionately called our ‘little firecracker’, not because she was a hothead, but because she always spoke up for the things she believed in.

“It is said that school leaves an impression on the students, Charley will leave an indelible impression on us by the smiles she brought to our faces, we will always remember Charley for her kindness, wonderful nature and the smiles she brought to our faces.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a medical emergency at a private address in Willeton Street at 10.34pm on Friday, three ambulances and a paramedic attended the scene.

“On arrival, we found one patient, who was taken to the hospital after treatment at the scene.

“Unfortunately, shortly after arriving at the hospital it became apparent that nothing could be done to save the patient and she was confirmed dead.”
