Travis Kelce’s Chiefs Teammate Chris Jones Is Shocked at How ‘Kelce’ Is Pronounced: ‘Crazy, Right?’

Even Travis Kelce’s teammates are still learning how to pronounce his last name correctly.

In a video shared by the NFL on Instagram, Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones can be seen debating the correct pronunciation of the tight end’s last name while warming up on the sideline.

“So you all know it’s not even Travis Kelce?” Jones tells his teammates, pronouncing “Kelce” as “Kel-see.”

He then reveals the true articulation, “Kels” – much to the player’s surprise.

“Damn, crazy, isn’t it?” adds Jones.

In the comments section of the post — captioned “@stonecoldjones95 to make sure everyone knows the correct pronunciation of ‘Kelce’. 😂” — users weighed the pronunciation.

“Whatever Jason says is,” one person wrote of Travis’ brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.

Another user wrote that she was going to follow Travis’ girlfriend Taylor Swift’s lead: “Ok but what’s (Taylor’s version) preference? I’ll go with that.”

Along with the sideline footage of Jones, the NFL also resurfaced footage of Jason, 36, and Travis, 34, discussing their last name on their podcast, New heightswith their dad, Ed Kelce.

“Should we go with ‘Kels’ or ‘Kels-ee,'” Jason asks his dad in the clip, and Ed replies, “Do whatever you want. I am.”

But Travis — who says he’ll “follow both of them” — cleared up his name before the NFL star brothers launched their podcast.

During an appearance on Barstool Sports 2021. Work with the boys podcast, the Chiefs tight end said, “My real name is ‘Kels,’ so I guess I just roll with the punches.”

After a clip of Travis explaining the pronunciation made the rounds on social media, some of his teammates shared their reactions — including Jones.

“I say Travis Kelce(y) all the time. Apologies, @tkelce,” defensive tackle wrote on X (formerly Twitter) at the time, to which Travis replied: “I’m not tripping at all… actually you can keep calling me that.”

At the time, Chiefs running back and friend of Travis Patrick Mahomes also posted about the discovery, writing“You learn something new every day,” as former NFL star Tyreek Hill said replied: “so I mispronounce his name all the time 😬.”

Answering Hill, Travis clarified that they will accept both excuses: “Well said man, I’m going for both…. One is my real name and one is my nickname.”
