Travis Kelce’s First Film as a Producer, My Dead Friend Zoe, to Debut at SXSW

Travis Kelce’s next big move won’t be on the football field. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is breaking into filmmaking.

The 34-year-old Super Bowl champion is an executive producer on My dead friend Zoea film that will debut at South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas on March 9. The Kyle Hausmann-Stokes-directed film is also the first film funded by the renewable energy tax credit, PEOPLE confirms.

Investors took advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law in August 2022. The production used funds from the sale of excess tax credits from entrepreneur Mike Field, reports Diversity. Field is also a producer My dead friend Zoe.

The Inflation Reduction Act is “the largest single investment in climate and energy in American history, enabling America to tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice, secure America’s position as a world leader in domestic clean energy production, and put the United States on a path to achieving the Biden-Harris administration’s climate goals, including a net-zero economy by 2050,” according to the Department of Energy website.

“Hollywood is risky, isn’t it? On a scale of one to 10, Hollywood, that’s a 9.5. Especially in terms of independent film,” said producer Ray Maiello Diversity. “These federal tax credits reduce the risk to a five.”
