Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce have always been close. But while the brothers share a similar love of football and family, most everything else about them is completely opposite – including their wardrobes.
“They are complete, total opposites in every aspect, personality, style, clothing, physically,” a source close to the Kelce family tells PEOPLE. “They’re like an odd couple.”
“Jason is a Birkenstock guy and Travis is a Jordan guy,” adds the insider about the Philadelphia Eagles center, who is most often seen in comfy flip flops and sweats, and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who is known as a bit of an inept hypebeast with his fashion sense. . “But at the core of it, they have similar values.”
A source explains that Jason, 36, who is the proud father of three daughters – Wyatt Elizabeth, Elliotte Ray and Bennett Llewellyn – with wife Kylie, has always been a quiet leader.
“He’s a pretty intense guy, but he’s really sweet, nice and doesn’t care about looks, he doesn’t care about looks and he doesn’t try to be cool or dress cool, he’s just a sweet thing,” the source reveals.

Travis, 34, who is dating 12-time Grammy-winning superstar Taylor Swift, “is the life of the party and Mr. Personality,” the insider shared.
“When he walks into a room, you know he’s there,” says the source. “She likes music and she likes going out and partying, she likes fashion and she likes to take risks when it comes to fashion.”

In an interview with WSJ magazine, Travis admitted to being a style-obsessed “impulse shopper” who spends at least three hours picking out outfits for his short trip to the locker room before every game. The Chiefs player has emerged as an unexpected trendsetter thanks to his bold matchday looks, which include everything from designer tracksuits to crushed velvet cargo pants.
“I kind of just do it on instinct,” Travis told the outlet while putting together the look from his cavernous closet, which is actually a converted bedroom and contains a collection of more than 300 sneakers alone.
Despite his well-stocked wardrobe and the fact that he spends most of his free time browsing fashion sites such as Ssense and Farfetch for new finds, he said he still struggles to get dressed on match day.
“It really just comes down to the wire,” he explained. “I kind of enjoy the creative process of panicking to just put something together.”

Travis admitted that not everyone will be a fan of his more unusual look. Indeed, the KidSuper Studio denim set he wore after the Chiefs’ Sept. 24 game with the Chicago Bears was grilled on Twitter, with some saying the paint splatter design looked like “Bounty paper towels” or a painter’s work clothes.

“Obviously not every look is for everyone,” he said, addressing the criticism. “I won’t be offended if someone says I look like a clown if I have a fun hat and some funky jeans. It is what it is, I’m going to have fun with it.”
“I mostly do it to put a smile on someone’s face,” he added.

The Kelce brothers are exactly 23 months apart: Jason was born on November 5, 1987, and Travis arrived on October 5, 1989. The two grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where their father, Ed, worked in a steel mill and their mother, Donna, in banking, according to Sports Illustrated. Raising two boys so close in age wasn’t always easy, Donna revealed in an interview with FOX 4 Kansas City.

“There’s a lot of broken windows, a lot of, you know, crashes, a lot of fights … and Travis was always the instigator because he wanted his brother’s attention,” she shared.
Jason echoed similar sentiments about what it was like growing up with his younger brother Travis.
“Two years apart in age, so growing up, in typical younger brother style, Travis was finding every other way to get the upper hand — and it was the most annoying thing ever,” Jason said in an interview with NFL Films in 2018.
Besides annoying each other, their large age difference also led to a natural competition between the two. “They were very, very competitive from a very early age,” Donna told FOX 4 Kansas City.
“There was a lot of fighting,” she explained Sports Illustrated in 2020. “There was a lot of hitting. It all just came from someone being better than the other and the other not being able to handle it.”
But there was no competition between the brothers all bad, according to Travis. “I think the competitiveness that we had growing up is very much why we’re in the NFL in the first place,” he told NFL Films.
