Travis Wittlake Injury: After only a brief hiatus from wrestling, the wrestler returned to the ring eager to prove himself. Travis, a wrestler from Oregon, has been sidelined for some time with an injury. His return, however, thrilled fans and supporters of the two-time Oregon Wrestler of the Year.
Travis, from Coos Bay, Oregon, earned two-time All-American honors with the Cowboys, totaling 79 victories in Stillwater. Wittlake, who attended Marshfield High School, won four state championships with an incredible 196-2 record and was a four-time All-American. In his second season, he started a perfect 14-0 and finished 22-3 overall, including a perfect 10-0 in dual meets during the 2020-21 season. Furthermore, he defeated six ranked opponents en route to a third-place finish in the Big 12 Tournament and a fourth-place finish in the NCAA Tournament, capping his sophomore season with the honor of being an All-American.
Travis Wittlake’s Injuries and Health: Did He Have an Accident?
The wrestler unintentionally sustained two leg injuries, which caused him to miss time on the mat. Wittlake reportedly injured his ankle while competing in a junior national dual at the end of June last year. Furthermore, a wrestling maneuver during the fight caused Travis Wittlake, OSU’s 165-pounder, to suffer the effects of a left knee injury. He wrestled a few more matches, but was injured again in the Bucknell dual, causing him to miss the final dual of the regular season.
It even kept him from qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row. Now he returns to competitions, knowing that he still has to prove himself. Travis recalled the incident as a unique event, noting that he had never been in such a state before.
“That was hard to watch,” he noted. It was strange not having any pressure, just being able to watch the tournament without an emotional connection because you weren’t there. So that was something I had to deal with.”
Travis returns to Oregon
Wittlake, a two-time All-American for OSU, announced his transfer to Oregon State on Instagram in September 2023 with one year remaining. Later, wrestling writer Pat Mineo confirmed the story, reporting that Wittlake had entered the transfer portal. Many fans in his hometown were overjoyed when he returned to his local club. In addition, Travis expressed his delight at returning to Oregon in an interview.
He said,
“I haven’t wrestled in Oregon in a while. I’m really delighted. “A lot of people come to watch.”
Wittlake reunited with coach Chris Pendleton after moving to Oregon. Chris served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State before taking over as the Beavers’ head coach. Similarly, Wittlake is now fighting in a weight class two levels higher than he has been for most of his career. Despite ailments holding back his progress, he worked diligently over the summer to get to 184 pounds. Furthermore, he returned wrestling against Trey Munoz, giving Wittlake a tough challenge to prove his place in his new weight class.
