Two schools ‘locked down’ after stabbing as victim rushed to hospital – with four arrested over ‘attempted murder’

TWO schools have been put on “lockdown” after a man was stabbed – and four arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The victim, in his 40s, was rushed to hospital from the scene of the accident in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester at around 8.50am today.

Two men in their 20s and two women, aged 17 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody, police later confirmed.

The victim suffered injuries that are ‘serious but not life-threatening’.

Two local schools are reportedly on lockdown while the gunman is still at large.

George’s Central CE Primary School, in Darlington Street, and Fred Longworth High School, informed parents earlier today, as reported by the MEN.

Fred Longworth High School shared a message with parents stating that students will not be allowed to leave the site during the incident.

It said: “GMP advises that all local schools and the wider community are able to operate as normal.

“The school will therefore close at its normal time and pupils will be released as normal. GMP will ensure a police presence in and around the incident area this evening to provide security.

Two cordons have been put in place, one in the Manchester Road area of ​​Tyldesley and the other on Tyldesley Road, Atherton.

The police confirmed that the two cordons are connected.

Chief Inspector Adam Wignall, from GMP’s Wigan district, said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the general public.

“We have arrested four people and are continuing to determine all the circumstances that led to this incident. Our officers will remain in the area today over the weekend, providing security and will be happy to assist you with any queries you may have.

“I would ask anyone who has any information about this incident to come forward.

“This could include video surveillance footage, surveillance cameras or doorbells from around the time of the incident and capture something that looks suspicious.”
