Tyla Wasn't Worried Her Diamond-Chain Nails Would Make Eating Hard at Met Gala: 'Just Looks Cute!' (Exclusive)

Tyla got her 2024 Met Gala manicure!

The “Water” singer (22) wore a look inspired by “The Sands of Time”. Her Balmain dress was made of sand that embodied an hourglass paired with nails dripping with diamonds.

Tyla, who made her Met Gala debut this year, gave the press a look at her manicure at The Mark Hotel before heading to the exclusive event.

In keeping with her overall look, she opted for a timeless soft pink shade. But she spiced it up with chains on which small diamonds hung from each finger.

When PEOPLE asked if her decorated nails would make it difficult to eat — and if she worked out beforehand — Tyla didn’t express concern.

– It doesn’t matter – answered the singer quickly. “It just looks cute!”

Celebrity nail artist Coca Michelle, known for her charming nail designs, is the talent behind Tyla’s gorgeous mani. Michelle, who has created looks for stars like Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion, shared a preview of Tyline’s Met manicure on her Instagram.

“Sands Of Time ⏳✨ Faceted Crystal Set for @tyla at @metgalaofficial_ 2024 ⛓️💎,” the nail artist captioned the post.

While eating at the Met Gala wasn’t a concern for Tyla, walking up its famous red-carpeted steps was quite the challenge upon her arrival at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Footage from the red carpet proved as much, showing the star hoisting herself up parts of the staircase at the event.

Despite her limited mobility in the sand-covered dress, Tyla told La La Anthony during Vogueofficial live stream from the red carpet, “I love the outfit and how it all turned out.” She and the creative team behind her look “wanted something outside the box this year,” she said.

Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, said Vogue that inspiration for the singer’s Met Gala dress—which included three shades of sand and was interspersed with threads of microcrystals—came from “a desire to redefine boundaries and transform a fleeting material into a timeless masterpiece.”

However, the sculptural dress wasn’t really functional except for a photo shoot on the carpet. In fact, Rousteing cut off the entire bottom half of Tyla’s dress when the couple went inside!

The creative director turned his dress into a mini dress by cutting it with scissors provided by Instagram fashion pro Eva Chen.

Rousteing shared a behind-the-scenes clip of the moment on Instagram (which also revealed that Tyla once walked into the Met Museum barefoot), precisely cutting her legs while still wearing her dress.
