The North Carolina Courage athlete walked down the aisle in a Martine Liana gown to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” before the couple exchanged traditional vows in a ceremony officiated by Father Tom Betz at St. John the Evangelist Church.

Murphy says she “loved” the open back of her dress, which featured delicate lace and beaded detailing.

After the wedding, which was planned by Danielle Rothweiler of Rothweiler Event Design, the newlyweds joined their 180 guests for a reception where they dined on filet mignon, crab cakes and chicken piccata.

For dessert, they cut a 4-tiered cake, decorated with flowers, plus a cookie and milk trolley that delivered sweet treats to each table.

“Chris came up to me at my 21st birthday party and challenged me to a penalty shootout where if he scored more than four goals I would have to take him out to dinner and if he didn’t he would take me out to dinner.”

“I distinctly remember showing up to the pitch early to warm up and Chris arriving jokingly in all his USA gear. He scored four goals and took me out to dinner the next day.”

Mirabelli popped the question to Murphy, but not before he had to change his original plans for the proposal.

“Unbeknownst to me, Chris canceled all of his original plans and managed to pull off a whole new plan to propose in the same week. He made it more private this time, just the two of us, just like I wanted.”

Now as the couple reflect on their special day, Murphy says it’s exactly what they wanted. “An epic holiday party filled with close family and friends.”
