UGC invites applications from universities for open and online courses
UGC Open and Online Courses: The University Grants Commission has invited applications from universities for open and online courses for the academic year 2023-24. commencing in February 2024. The UGC has invited eligible higher education institutions to submit applications for recognition to offer programs under open and distance learning (ODL) mode and/or online mode for the academic year 2023-24. The application portal will open on October 10, 2023. Institutions interested in applying can submit applications until October 31, 2023.

It must be noted that the duly attested hard copy of the application along with the original affidavit and annexure should be submitted to the Deputy Secretary, Office of Distance Education, UGC by 15th November 2023.
The notification further states that eligible institutions of higher education already recognized by the UGC to offer online and open distance learning programs for the academic session 2023024 may also apply for recognition of additional programmes.

The submission window is open throughout the year for institutions eligible to offer an online program without prior approval of the UGC as per regulation 3(B)(a) of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning and Online Programs) Regulations, 2020.
Category 1 institutions of higher education notified by UGC for categorization of universities for grant of Degreed Autonomy Ordinance, 2018 for offering programs in open and distance learning mode can also apply.
UGC publishes state mock lists of universities
The University Grants Commission has published a notice on fake universities. The list which includes fake educational institutions in different states has been released to create awareness about the same among students and parents applying for admission. States have been asked to take strict action against universities that mislead students and compromise the quality of education
