Umer Aalam, formerly known as Umer Iqbal, was born in Sialkot, Punjab Province, Pakistan.
After completing his school education, he studied engineering course at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (now COMSATS University), Islamabad. But later he felt that it was not interesting, so after studying for two semesters, he transferred to BBA. He also studied at Indus Group of Colleges, Rawalpindi. Later, he moved to Karachi to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.

Umer Aalam made his debut in the film industry with Ali Rehman Khan-starrer Parchi (2018), in which he made a brief appearance as a mobile phone snatcher. In 2018, he played Assad in the short film “Dia”.
In 2019, he played a truck driver in the movie “Chhalawa”. His performance as Jamaal in the film Carma (2022) received huge appreciation from the audience and critics.
In 2023, the actor played the role of Saqlain Mushtaq in the biopic Rawalpindi Express, based on the life of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar. In the same year, Umer appeared in the film Taxali starring Yasser Hussain.

- He revealed in an interview that he rose to fame as an actor after winning the reality show “Tamasha Season 1”. He said,
Before Tamasha, I would go out somewhere and people would push each other and whisper that I seemed like an actor. Now, they know me as Tamasha winner Umer Alam and not as brother of hero or friend of hero. Tamasha helped me through three or four years of struggle to get myself recognized. “
