Urgent warning for Brits with leftover Baileys after Christmas

AN URGENT warning has been issued to Brits with leftover Baileys after Christmas – and a mistake could cause serious damage.

Holiday drinkers may be tempted to pour the leftovers down the sink, but this mistake can “wreak havoc” on your home.

The experts at MyBuilder.com explained that pouring cream alcohol can destroy the pipes underneath.

Clever marketers said: “A drink like this should never be disposed of in this way. Cream liqueurs have a high fat content and as such fall into the category of FOG (Fats, Oils, and Greases).

“MIST should never go into the sink because it sticks to pipes and can cause blockages.

“It is also responsible for the ‘fatbergs’ in our sewers.”

Instead, it is recommended that you transfer any leftover Baileys to a container and dispose of it in the trash.

Plumbers also warned that grease from the Christmas turkey should not be allowed to run down the drain.

As it cools, the fluid will harden and likely lead to a plug further down the line.

An emergency call on the big day or any time during the holiday season could see homeowners shelling out hundreds for special rates.

“Half the population admits to pouring FOG down the drain, but don’t be one of them,” MyBuilder experts added.

How to store Baileys

According to the company, Baileys Original lasts “for two years from the date of bottling, opened or unopened when stored at the optimum temperature” – 0C to 25C.

However, there are a number of Baileys products that have different expiry dates.

Many Brits believe that Baileys must be refrigerated, but it’s not, it can be stored anywhere within the above temperatures.

However, the manufacturer warns against leaving it in direct sunlight.

Their website also states that Baileys is at “optimum flavor” before the best before date – which can be found on the back of the bottle.
