Twila Kilgore served as the team’s interim head coach during the transition period. U.S. Soccer said Kilgore will retain the title while Hayes finishes the 2023-24 Women’s Super League season with Chelsea FC Women, which she has managed for the past 11 seasons. Kilgore will then join Hayes’ staff as an assistant coach.

According to US Soccer, Hayes will “become the highest-paid women’s soccer coach in the world” after she officially joins the organization two months before the 2024 Olympics begin. The federation reached an agreement on equal pay for female players in May 2022.

The USWNT celebrated Emma Hayes’ new role on Instagram.
