UP Medical Seats: According to reports, the state plans to increase the number of PG medical seats by adding around 800 PG medical seats in government medical institutions in the state from the 2024 session onwards. For complete knowledge, see the full article.

“Preparations for adding 763 places have been completed, and more are being worked on. This will be the biggest jump in the number of PG medical seats in the state from our current over 1,700 seats in state medical colleges,” said Alok Kumar, principal secretary of medical education, Uttar Pradesh, according to media reports.

“We have ensured that these deficiencies are corrected first. After the obstacles were removed, the faculties accepted the proposal. We are sure to add almost all the places we suggest,” he added.

According to a government announcement released on July 21, 2023, there has been an 82% increase in medical facilities in Uttar Pradesh, from 387 before 2014 to 704 now. Additionally, the number of MBBS seats has increased by 110 percent, from 51,348 in 2014 to 1,07,948 currently, and the number of PG seats has increased by 117 percent, from 31,185 before 2014 to 67,802 currently.

Uttar Pradesh gets financial support for upgradation of medical college

With regard to upgradation of current State Government/Central Government Medical Colleges to increase MBBS seats for undergraduate and post-graduate studies, financial support has been provided to Uttar Pradesh for increasing 432 MBBS seats in 7 medical colleges at INR 518.39 Crore and 556 post-graduate seats in 12 to the Medical College for INR 375.92 crore under CSS.

In addition, the state received assistance under PMSSY for upgradation of Super Specialty blocks in 11 government medical colleges in the cities of Lucknow, Varanasi, Aligarh, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Meerut, Agra and Kanpur. In addition, AIIMS have been established in the cities of Rae Bareli and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
