Val Garland And Dominic Skinner Are Set To Be The Judge Of “Glow Up Season 4”

Glow Up Season 4 will premiere on August 19. Ten aspiring MUAs from across the UK will compete in the program and their skills will be judged by MUA industry veterans Val Garland and Dominic Skinner. Both have extensive professional experience in the sector and are eager to share their knowledge of the upcoming performance. The event will be hosted by TV personality Maya Jama.

The eight-episode series will see contestants compete in cosmetic tasks to advance in the program and ultimately win it.

According to the official synopsis of the show:

“Who shines and who fades?” Amazing make-up and breathtaking creations from aspiring artists who want to be the next British make-up star”

Meet the judges of Season 4 of Glow Up.

The judges of the upcoming show are extremely smart in the MUA profession and have built a reputation for themselves. Dominic Skinner is global senior artist for Mac Cosmetics, while Val Garland is global makeup director for L’Oréal Paris and beauty editor for British Vogue.

1) Valerie Garland

63-year-old Val Garland is a make-up artist living in London. She grew up in Bristol before moving to Sydney, Australia to pursue a career as a colourist. Her scientific interest in color, hair and cosmetics quickly elevated her to the position of a top artist in Australia. After a few years, the Glow Up judge moved to London to work on high-profile Alexander McQueen shows, celebrity shoots with Kate Moss and magazine partnerships with Vogue, Dazed & Confused, iD and Visionaire.

Garland was named Pantene Pro-V Makeup Artist of the Year in 2004, and in 2017 she was named the first L’Oréal Paris Global Make-up Director. An anthology highlighting her work through a collection of iconic photos produced by a make-up artist has also been confirmed.

2) Dominic Skinner

Dominic, Senior Global Artist at MAC Cosmetics, has been in the beauty industry for nearly 20 years. His biggest influence in the field of cosmetics was the character of Daryl Hannah Pris in Blade Runner, who had smeared colors on his eyes. He constantly encourages his customers to experiment with strong cosmetics. Dominic shared the inspiration for his makeup on his official MAC site. He stated:

“Even though I’ve moved around a lot, I don’t have to go anywhere in particular for inspiration,” she says.

He also stated:

“I find that ideas are all around me; it’s just a matter of finding those that others may have overlooked.”

Over the years, Skinner has collaborated with numerous well-known figures from the industry. Additionally, after many years at MAC, the Glow Up judge’s most memorable experience was assisting Alex Box on a magazine shoot directed by Alexander McQueen.
