While she was in Philadelphia promoting her new cookbook Let yourself go, Bertinelli and her boyfriend, Mike Goodnough got into a hilarious fight with fans. Goodnough, an East Coast writer, composed a script-like Instagram caption recalling the moment. He began by setting the scene.
“In Philadelphia with @wolfiesma,” he said, tagging her Instagram account. “The two of us enter the elevator in the hotel, which is going down. A few floors down, the elevator stops and two women enter it. The door closes and they both turn to look at us. Well, Valerie, rather.”
According to Goodnough’s account, the first lady asked the star, “Has anyone ever told you that you look just like Valerie Bertinelli?” while the other agreed: “He has a right. You know completely.”

Bertinelli’s new girlfriend said she just smiled and nodded to their fellow elevator riders. Goodnough got in on the joke by looking at Bertinelli in a funny way. “Yeah, I really don’t see…” he recalled his words.
The first lady stood by her comments about the resemblance. “If I was at home in California, I would have thought she was her,” she said, according to Goodnough’s testimony, while another woman said, “That would be crazy.”
The cookbook author’s boyfriend ended the story with a stupid ending. “And then we got to the lobby and they were gone,” he said, adding, “I really hope this post somehow finds Woman 1 and 2…”
Goodnough accompanied the Instagram post with a photo of the former Food Network star walking the streets of Philly.
Fans raved about the story in the comments section, with one writing: “Love it! 🤣 @wolfiesmom looks very happy these days! 😍🙌❤️🔥.” Another said: “I love this! Nothing better than having fun together!”

On April 20, the couple became Instagram official. In the photo Bertinelli shared, they posed together wearing glasses and smiling for the camera.
Although Bertinelli went public with her relationship in March, she has kept Goodnough’s identity a secret.
“I’m in love,” she told PEOPLE in a recent cover story. “It’s a seesaw of emotions because I was adamant that I would never fall in love again.”

She didn’t see the new relationship coming at all. “My stomach is spinning. This should not have happened,” she added.
Not long after, Goodnough announced online that he was the cookbook author’s new man.
“I’m Valerie Bertinelli’s boyfriend… and that might be one of the most surreal lines I’ve ever uttered. But it’s true… and nothing about our real relationship seems surreal. It just seems like a… good… happy… present,” he wrote on his Substack called Hoarse Whisperings.
“I just adore her. I’m so glad we’re together,” Goodnough added.
