Veena George is an Indian politician and former journalist. She is a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and became the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Kerala in 2021.

Veena George was born on Tuesday, August 3, 1976 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (46 years old as of 2022). She completed her schooling from Mount Bethany High School Mylapra in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. She completed her graduation and postgraduate studies in Physics from Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She completed her B.Ed. from Kerala University. While in college, she was a member of the communist student union Students Federation of India (SFI). She worked as a teacher at Pathanamthitta Catholic College for a year before switching to journalism. After 16 years as a journalist and presenter, she entered politics. In 2016, Veena was appointed as the CPIM candidate for the Arammulla state parliamentary constituency and won the first election. In 2021, she succeeded KK Shailaja as the health and family welfare minister in the second LDF government led by Pinarayi Vijayan.

Veena presents morning shows and special international performances. Veena then joined Indiavision and worked with the channel for a while before joining Reporter TV. In 2015, she joined TV New and made history by becoming the first female executive editor of a Malayalam news channel. Veena George has published various news-related articles.

While in college, she was a member of the Students Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Veena made an unexpected entry into mainstream politics in 2016, when she was announced as the CPI(M) candidate from Aranmula state assembly constituency in Pathanamthitta district. She defeated senior Indian National Congress (INC) leader K. Sivadasan Nair in the first election by a margin of 7,646 votes. She contested the 2019 Indian General Elections from the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat and finished second, defeating candidates from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in a tight election. Veena retained her seat in the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections and increased her vote margin to 19,003 votes.
In 2021, she was nominated as Minister of Health and Family Welfare by the CPM Politburo; her consecutive victories in the Legislative Assembly elections in Congress strongholds, and her outstanding leadership during the Pathanamthitta flood relief in 2018 and 2019 and organizational skills were the main factors that convinced the party leadership that Veena was best qualified to replace the Congress party.
