Veeru Devgan is an Indian action choreographer and film director. He is the father of veteran Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn. He died of age-related illnesses on May 27, 2019.

Veeru Devgan was born in 1934 in Amritsar, British India, to a Saraswat Brahmin family (age at time of death: 85). In 1957, in order to become an actor, he ran away from home with three friends and was sent to prison for taking a train without a ticket. The ticket inspector takes them to a magistrate and demands that they pay a fine or be imprisoned for a week as compensation. They had no money so they had to spend a week in jail. After arriving in Mumbai, they realize that life here is not easy. As a result, his friends returned to Amritsar, but instead of returning to Amritsar, he worked many jobs such as car cleaner, carpenter, etc. After making some money from these menial jobs, he started learning martial arts because he found that he was not good at it. Good at acting. Soon, he established himself as a movement director.

He has two sons; Ajay Devgan (actor) and Anil Devgan (director) and two daughters; Neelam Devgan and Kavita Devgan Kavita Devgan.

He first worked as a stuntman in the film Anita (1967), starring Manoj Kumar and Sadhana. As an actor, he made his debut with the film Sourabh (1979). He is also a director and has directed many films. One of his best directorial films was Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999), starring Amitabh Bachchan and his son Ajay Devgn.
He also produced films such as “Singhasan” (1986), “Dil Kya Kare” (1999), etc. He also wrote the idea for the film Jigar (1992).
