Victoria Monét Has ‘Already’ Created a Love Song Anita Baker ‘Would Be Proud of,’ Says R&B Legend

Victoria Monét has the stamp of Anita Baker!

On Thursday, the “Caught Up in the Rapture” legend, 64, responded to a post by the 2022 “On My Mama” singer, 34, who shared her dream to record a love song that would make Baker proud.

“I want to make a classic love song that would make Anita Baker proud,” the singer wrote in February 2022. twitter.

“How Does It Make You Feel” is a song on Monét’s latest album, Jaguar II, which was released last August. She has earned seven Grammy nominations, making her the second-most nominated artist at the February 4 ceremony.

Last month, the “Coastin’” singer spoke exclusively with PEOPLE after learning that her 2½-year-old daughter, Hazel, was the youngest person ever to be nominated for a Grammy for her involvement in her mother’s music.

“It’s a really big deal. I think it’s another full circle for me because everything was really scary during pregnancy,” she told PEOPLE. “People were telling me how bad a career move it could be, how bad it could be for everyone.”

The mother-daughter duo collaborated on Monét’s “Hollywood,” which earned Hazel a nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance.

Before she welcomed her first child with her fitness trainer boyfriend John Gaines in February 2021 and blossomed into a mainstream artist, Monét was a songwriter for stars like Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Fifth Harmony. She also wrote songs for Ariana Grande.

In 2019, as a token of her gratitude, Monét was one of six women the 30-year-old “thank u, next” singer presented with a matching ring, alluding to her hit “7 Rings.”

“I have two, because at one point I lost one, and I was so devastated because I’m a bit irresponsible sometimes. That was the old me, this is the new me, but Ariana felt so bad that she got another one,” he said. Monét to PEOPLE last month.

She added, “Then I found another one. So she’s like, ‘Just keep both,’ so I have two and I wear them stacked.”

Speaking about the inspiration for naming his album, Monét said: “I associated the music industry with the jungle… The jungle is the jaguar’s environment, but it’s not always the first thing you see. That’s how I felt when I was behind the scenes in music.”
