Vijay Arora is an Indian film and television actor, best known for his role in the Bollywood film “Yadon Ki Baaraat” (1973), starring Zeenat Aman, and for his role as “Meghnad Indrajit” in Ramanand Sagar’s epic television series “Ramayana” (1987).

Vijay Arora was born on Wednesday, December 27, 1944 (62 years old at the time of his death) in the state of Kutch, British India. He graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in 1971 with a gold medal. Before joining FTII, he tried to find a job in the film industry, but someone suggested that he first develop his acting skills and then find a job, which is why he joined FTII. In an interview, talking about this, he said:
When I decided to join the film industry, I went around every studio. Then I sat and waited for them. No one came. Someone suggested that I prepare for this career first. So I went to film school, worked hard for two years, got a gold medal, and even signed up before graduation. “

Vijay Arora made his debut with Zaroorat (1972) with another newcomer Reena Roy.

Vijay Arora has also appeared in some Gujarati films like Dikri Ane Gai Dore Tiva Jaye (1979) and Lekh Na Mathe Mekh (1981).

After a string of failures in his film career, he found a new identity on the small screen, playing the role of ‘Meghnad’ in Ramanand Sagar’s epic television series Ramayana (1988). Meghnad is the son of Ravan (played by Arvind Trivedi) and his dialogues as Meghnad were loved by the audience.
After Ramayana, Vijay acted in many television series, including the Shyam Benegal-directed Hindi (1988), in which he played Prince Salim/Emperor Jahangir.

On Friday, February 2, 2007, Vijay Arora died of stomach cancer at his home in Mumbai. He had been suffering from intestinal problems for several months. After his death, his wife Dilber suffered from severe depression and could only recover through long-term homeopathic medicine. Speaking about Dilber’s trauma, Vijay and Dilber’s son Farhad said:
She became very absent-minded and would go into blank periods at times. Some days she would light the kitchen gas stove and walk out with nothing to cook on it. When we went to our regular haunts with Dad, she would break down. She didn’t want to see or talk to Dad’s friends, like Jackie Shroff, Govinda, Danny Denzongpa, Bappi Lahiri and his son Bappa, who were still in regular touch with us. She just wanted to feel Dad by her side. She missed his attention, love, care and support terribly.”

- After Yadon Ki Baaraat, Vijay Arora has become a leading actor in Bollywood and was considered to be the next superstar. Even Rajesh Khanna himself admitted that Vijay Arora had the potential to replace him as the superstar of Bollywood at that time.
- The years after Chura Liya Hai were more of a downhill climb for Vijay Arora as he slowly faded into oblivion. Just a few months before his death, he spoke about his acting career and said:
I have never tried to make a comeback nor have I ever tried to secure roles. I never believed in being a part of industry politics. It has always been my choice to accept or reject roles. Even today, I am offered roles in A-grade films and television serials. But I do not want to do roles that are not suitable for my age or that portray me in an immoral and shameful manner – especially those cheesy films that do not respect women. I do not mind playing roles with negative undertones, like sadists or traitors. In fact, I enjoy these roles.”
